Website Localization for an Indian Business: Language, Forms and Mobile QA
Plan an Indian website localization project with language choices, glossaries, mobile testing, accessibility and clear responsibility.
Website localization is not a document where the same sentences appear twice. Visitors must be able to find a product, complete a form, understand errors and receive meaningful messages. The Russian source article stresses translator expertise, technical integration and search visibility. For a business addressing customers in India, language choice must follow the actual audience rather than assuming English or Hindi covers every community.
Map the tasks before choosing pages
List the journeys that matter: browse, compare, enquire, register, pay if applicable, read delivery terms and recover an account. Mark which parts can be released together. A page translated into Hindi that ends in an untranslated error message is not a complete user experience. Decide whether another regional language is justified by real customer demand; India is multilingual and no single language is universal.
Provide a visible language switch and avoid redirecting visitors only because an IP address suggests a particular state. A person may prefer a different language from the one typically associated with the region.
Give translators context and a shared glossary
Export navigation labels, form hints, error messages, emails, category names and important policy copy. Add screenshots or access to a safe staging environment. Mark product codes, company names and terms that must remain unchanged. Discuss transliteration and place names explicitly. A literal translation can fit a paragraph but fail as a two-word button, so the translator needs to see the real interface.
Keep a list of approved technical terms and separate marketing copy from contractual text. The person translating should not silently rewrite payment, refund or privacy conditions. Assign subject-matter review where legal or technical language matters.
Make the technical release testable
Ask how translations are stored, who updates changed content in each language and what happens if a key is missing. Genuinely localized pages can have distinct crawlable URLs, meaningful canonical links and reciprocal language links only between actual equivalents. A language switch should preserve the current task rather than losing a partially completed form.
Test Devanagari rendering and longer button labels on narrow devices. Check keyboard navigation, assistive descriptions and errors, not just headlines. Do not automatically translate private user messages without appropriate consent.
Test real scenarios without using real personal data
Give each language reviewer a synthetic account and have them find a service, submit a sample request, trigger an error and recover a session. Check that form values survive a language change where appropriate. Verify currency, units, dates and addresses against the actual product policy instead of translating symbols mechanically.
Track broken links, mixed-language sections and outdated translations. Publishing several languages does not guarantee rankings; search engines and readers need useful, consistent pages, not shallow duplicates.
A hypothetical handover
A training provider prepares English and Hindi descriptions for a course. It reviews enrollment terms, support contact, form validation and confirmation text on a phone before release. The illustration does not imply an existing local supplier. To find a translator or localization specialist, specify the source page inventory, target audience, glossary, staging access boundaries, review process and deliverables.
