Finding a fitter for removable magnetic price labels on a wooden display
Plan removable price-card holders for wooden shelving, test attachments, protect finishes and keep small magnet parts away from visitors.
Understand the wooden base first
Measure shelf depth, panel thickness and the likely reading position for each card. Record the surface finish and any areas that must not be drilled or marked. A magnet does not attach directly to ordinary wood: the design needs an appropriate metal counterpart or a different secure solution. Seek the display owner's permission for any permanent alteration and test one sample on an unobtrusive area.
Describe the installation requirements
Tell the fitter how many labels you need, the card dimensions, how frequently information changes and whether visitors can reach the fixings. Ask for a simple placement sketch and instructions for cleaning and replacement. In family-friendly shops, consider the danger of small detachable magnets and prefer a design in which such parts are not accessible. Strong magnetic attraction alone is not a safety strategy.
Make the price cards readable
Set a clear hierarchy for the item name, relevant description and current price. Try a printed sample at normal viewing distance under the shop's real lighting. Avoid unsupported claims about the products' origin or characteristics. Staff should be able to replace the paper insert without tools and without knocking fragile ceramics or other goods. Keep the card dimensions consistent for future reprints.
An illustrative example in Bath
Imagine a pottery maker taking a small wooden display to a craft fair in Bath. They do not want screws or adhesive tape on the varnished shelves. A shopfitting specialist makes one test holder with a suitable backing and checks that the price insert can be changed safely. After the owner inspects the surface and the holder's stability, matching units are made for the remaining shelves. The people and supplier are hypothetical.
Check the finished installation
During handover, change several cards repeatedly and make sure the holders stay in place and do not scratch the timber or fall towards visitors. The shop owner remains responsible for accurate, up-to-date price and product information; neat fittings do not prove compliance with trading obligations. Keep a record of component sizes so damaged pieces can be replaced without redesigning the entire display.
